Brusò takes on the responsibilities of Carol DiMaio-Lucas, who stepped down as president in August. Michele Furlanetto, a third-generation member of the family-owned firm, will remain president of Furla USA and managing director of Furla U.K., a post he took in October.
Brusò reports to Furla global ceo Paolo Fontanelli. Brusò is the former ceo of eyewear case firm Fedon America Inc. Before that, he was a partner in an Italian retail consultancy and managed operations for United Colors of Benetton in Europe and the U.S.
“We want to focus on the country and really establish the brand where we are not present yet,” said Brusò, who is responsible for all aspects of Furla in the Americas. “We want to reinforce brand awareness in the U.S., Canada and South America.”
The 81-year-old Bologna-based firm has 12 company-owned stores, two franchised stores and five outlets in the U.S. There are nine franchised units in Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean. Furla reported sales of about $200 million last year.
