McCluskey, former president and chief executive officer of The Warnaco Group Inc., was elected by the Avon board, increasing its total members to 11.
She is currently on PVH Corp.’s board until June 19, when her tenure ends. PVH acquired Warnaco in February 2013.
Sheri McCoy, Avon’s ceo, said of McCluskey, “She has an incredibly strong background in women’s brands globally and rich merchandising expertise. I know she will contribute valuable insight as a director.”
Avon’s chairman Doug Conant said, “Helen has a valuable blend of branding, marketing and international experience. Having led a public company previously, she brings a wealth of knowledge to Avon’s board.”
McCluskey has held a succession of roles at Warnaco during her decade at the company. She joined in 2004, serving as group president of intimate apparel. In June 2007, she also assumed global responsibility for Warnaco’s swimwear brands. In 2010, she was named chief operating officer, adding to her responsibilities oversight of the Calvin Klein Jeans brand, in addition to Warnaco’s international business and the global supply chain and sourcing operations.
She is credited with expanding the Calvin Klein underwear business, doubling revenues in a four-year period, and had a key role in product launches, such as Calvin Klein Steel, Calvin Klein X and CK One. She was named president and ceo of the company in 2012.
Prior to joining Warnaco, she held posts at Liz Claiborne Corp. and Sara Lee Corp. She began her career at Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. McCluskey also serves as a director at Signet Jewelers Ltd.
