Claus-Dietrich Lahrs, managing director of Christian Dior Couture, was named chief executive officer of Hugo Boss AG on Thursday.
He takes over the top spot from Bruno Sälzer, who quit in February. The strong-willed Sälzer was said to be at odds with Boss' new owner, the private equity firm Permira, over its demands for higher dividends and a larger debt burden.
Lahrs starts Aug. 1, and also will become a member on the managing board of the German fashion house. He has been with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton for 12 years.
"Claus-Dietrich Lahrs is experienced in brand management in the premium and luxury segment of the fashion industry. He is internationally [focused] and he is a manager with great sales expertise," Hugo Boss chairman Giuseppe Vita said.
Lahrs said he would seek to make Hugo Boss a bigger global player.
"It is my goal to generate even more international brand awareness in the big growth markets of Asia and the Americas," Lahrs said. "In that respect, Hugo Boss has a great potential in all product categories."
