It’s hard to know which moment proved most meaningful for Chicago retailer Ikram Goldman recently.
Was it winning the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Legend of Fashion Award during which designers Jason Wu, Kate and Laura Mulleavy and Irini Arakas, and T editor Sally Singer came to pay their regards? Or was it awarding $55,000 in scholarships and paid internships she orchestrated to students? Perhaps it was celebrating her boutique’s 10th anniversary in high style, throwing a lavish party for some 800 guests including top clients Desirée Rogers and Mellody Hobson (with date, filmmaker George Lucas) and designers Narciso Rodriguez, Thakoon Panichgul and others in tow.

"It's really hard sometimes. I think I have a reputation for being really tough and aggressive and pushy but I really am a very shy person who wants to be liked, and that's the conflict constantly. There's something that takes hold - I want people to like me, I don't want to be mean - but if I see something that just cries out to be answered, I go for it," says renowned NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell.
