Part of Alexander McQueen’s enduring legacy will be the completeness of his vision, in which hair and makeup played an essential role. “He would take you on a journey of imagination” says hairstylist Paul Hanlon, who worked with the designer for two seasons. “He was very hands-on with the hair. Once, I was styling a model’s hair, and he said, ‘This is the way I treat fabric,’ and he folded the hair like when you make a paper fan when you’re a kid. It was unbelievable to see someone who isn’t a hairdresser treat the hair in that way. It was a beautiful moment.” Here, some of our favorite beauty moments from McQueen’s runway extravaganzas.
