LONDON — Burberry Group said Jeremy Darroch has been appointed to its board as a non-executive director, and as a member of the board’s audit, remuneration and nomination committees.

His appointment took effect on Feb. 5.

Darroch has been chief executive officer of British Sky Broadcasting Group plc since 2007, having joined the company as its chief financial officer in 2004.

Prior to joining Sky, Darroch worked at DSG International plc, formerly Dixons Group plc, and Procter & Gamble.

In a statement, Burberry chairman Sir John Peace pointed to Darroch’s “experience leading a global media company combined with his tremendous digital and financial expertise,” and said they would be assets to the company.

Last year, Burberry named the former BBC executive John Smith to the new post of chief operating officer. From 2005 to 2012, Smith served as chief executive of BBC Worldwide, the commercial subsidiary of the BBC.
