Jim Kelley has been named president of The NPD Group’s Sports and Leisure Trends business.
Kelley has served as president of Leisure Trends since NPD acquired the Boulder, Colo.-based sports and recreation research organization in November. In his new position, he continues to report to Dennis Brown, president of NPD’s Americas commercial business.
Kelley joined Leisure Trends in 2009 as vice president of consumer research and was later promoted to chief operating officer of the firm.
Kelley’s management team in the newly configured business includes Joe Hachemeister, executive director of client development; Julia Clark Day, executive director of business development, and Jason Gee, director of operations.
Kelley will continue to work from the Leisure Trends office in Boulder while personnel and services from other facilities, including NPD’s headquarters in Port Washington, N.Y., will be utilized for coverage of the sports, recreation and outdoor industries, tracking trends in apparel, footwear and equipment for categories including running, outdoor, fitness, cycling and snow sports.
Brown commented, “Jim Kelley brings a wealth of analytical, strategic and marketplace knowledge, which will be invaluable as we build upon the combined strengths of both companies.”
Brown noted that the unit will track data from over 26,000 stores globally and has “the capacity to provide new solutions for the sports industry through new categories and additional channel views in the U.S. and worldwide.”
