Harry Slatkin, founder and president of Slatkin & Co., was the keynote speaker at an event marking the inaugural Columbus Walk Now for Autism, which is scheduled to take place at Ohio State University this fall.
Limited Brands Inc., which is the parent company of Slatkin & Co., hosted the kickoff event at its corporate headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, on Aug. 7.
Slatkin and his wife, Laura, have a nine-year-old son who is affected by autism and are advocates for those with autism, having established a nonprofit organization, called the New York Center for Autism, five years ago. The center is dedicated to increasing the availability and quality of intensive, science-based educational programs for children with autism.
“For seven years, we have fought to get this disorder appropriate attention,” said Harry Slatkin. “It is the number-one childhood disease — one in every 90 boys are born with autism and these walks are key for increasing awareness throughout a community.”
More than 600 volunteers gathered at Limited’s offices two weeks ago to show support for the walk, which is scheduled to take place Oct. 12 at the Value City Arena at The Jerome Schottenstein Center on The Ohio State University campus.
