Preparing to grow overseas, Limited Brands Inc. on Wednesday named Martin Waters as executive vice president, international.

Waters was managing director and North American chief executive officer for Boots Retail International, the U.K. health and beauty retailer.

Limited is expected to announce some initial forays overseas in the next few months.

“Martin’s leadership and experience will be incredible assets as we solidify our international expansion plans,” said Leslie H. Wexner, chairman and ceo of Limited Brands. “At Boots, he built the U.S. and Asian businesses from scratch by forming successful partnerships with leading retailers — this pattern of successful relationships matches us and our goals.”

“Limited Brands is already a retailing giant. I look forward to extending the company’s brands internationally,” Waters said. “It will be exciting to bring the leading intimate apparel and personal care products to women throughout the world.”

Waters will report to Martyn Redgrave, executive vice president and chief administrative officer. He replaces Mark Giresi, who resigned.

Last year, Limited Brands shed its Limited Stores and Express apparel chains, enabling the company to focus on the Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works divisions and take a closer look at the international market.

“We are looking at the potential and I think we will probably announce the first steps, hopefully sometime in the first quarter of ’08,” Wexner said at an analysts’ meeting in October. “It’s bigger than a bread box and I don’t know how it will play out.”
