Ashley Allen, president and chief executive officer of Milliken & Co., is retiring on May 1 and will be succeeded by chief operating officer Joe Salley, the company said Thursday.
Chairman Roger Milliken revealed Allen's retirement during his remarks at the company's winter management conference on Wednesday in Spartanburg, S.C., where it is based. Allen's retirement in May follows his 65th birthday.
Allen is a 38-year company veteran who was named president and ceo in 2005. Prior to that, he served as chief operating officer.
"Joe Salley inherits the big shoes of Ashley Allen, who has provided tremendous leadership to this private manufacturing company," said Milliken in a statement. "In elevating Joe to the ceo leadership role, we are happy to again be promoting from within, which is testimony to Milliken's commitment to recruit, educate, challenge and promote the best possible talent."
Salley, 40, joined the company in 1994. During his time with the company, he also has been president of the Performance Products division and president of Milliken Research Corp.
Considered one of the largest privately held textile and chemical manufacturers in the world, Milliken employs more than 10,000 people in 55 facilities worldwide, working with more than 19,000 different textile and chemical products.
