Cocoa powder may not be a tool found in the average nail care kit, but Zoë Pocock is not your average manicurist. The 33-year-old took style-obsessed Londoners by storm recently when she unveiled a nail design inspired by Christian Louboutin shoes. Talons painted red on the underside, in homage of his signature scarlet soles, is one of many unconventional looks she hopes will banish staid French manicures. Though she’s worked with designers Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney, Pocock prefers to match nails to accessories rather than clothing. To wit, she’s also come up with a crocodile-textured manicure inspired by leather goods brand Mulberry. In another version, she uses cocoa powder to create a suede finish. “I have lots of ideas,” Pocock says, adding she’s so enthusiastic that she’s convinced her husband, Mike, to become a manicurist, too.

"It's really hard sometimes. I think I have a reputation for being really tough and aggressive and pushy but I really am a very shy person who wants to be liked, and that's the conflict constantly. There's something that takes hold - I want people to like me, I don't want to be mean - but if I see something that just cries out to be answered, I go for it," says renowned NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell.
