MILAN — Giacomo Festa Bianchet, chief executive officer of the high-end mill Loro Festa, died Sunday in Milan of lymph gland cancer. He turned 54 that day.
Festa was married to fashion and interiors designer Rebecca Moses, who advised Festa on the design side.
Based in Borgosesia, Vercelli, the spinner specializes in luxury fibers and yarns such as cashmere, merino wool and cashmere and silk blends, delivered in a rainbow of colors. Its products are used by scores of major designers.
In the early Eighties, Festa joined the family firm, founded by Alfredo Loro Lamia and Giacomino Festa Bianchet in 1926, and turned out to be a farsighted and shrewd businessman who elevated the company to international status. The entrepreneur gradually took control of the commercial side of the business, first handling Europe and later expanding his duties to include the U.S. and Japan.
Besides growing exports, Festa was involved in all aspects of production.
“Giacomo was passionate about life and had developed strong relationships with all his clients because he was communicative, honest and fun,” said his father, Ottavio Festa Bianchet, the president of the company.
The mild-mannered Festa loved to travel, cook and ski.
A funeral was held Wednesday in Quarona.
Besides Moses and his father, Festa Bianchet is survived by his three children — Virginia, Maximilian and Benjamin — and his two sisters, Alessandra and Simonetta.
