Giovanni Russo, 45, a veteran creative director and the founder of creative agency No. 11, died June 21 at his home in New York. Russo’s death came after a “long and courageous battle with cancer,” a family spokeswoman said.
A 1988 graduate of Parsons, Russo served as art director at Travel + Leisure magazine from 1994 to 1995, when he joined Gap Inc. as senior director of advertising. He founded No. 11 in 1998. Under his watch, the boutique agency helped rethink the images of a wide range of clients including Victoria’s Secret, Yohji Yamamoto and L’Oréal. He served as global creative director of Clinique from 2005 to 2006 while continuing his work at No. 11.
Russo is survived by his wife, Florence, and their three children.
Services will be held today from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Greenwich Village Funeral Home at 199 Bleecker Street and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompeii at 25 Carmine Street.
