Paul Witt has joined Perry Ellis International’s Original Penguin brand as vice president of global marketing and communications, a new post.

Witt directs the global brand image for all Original Penguin wholesale and retail business. This includes domestic and international marketing and public relations, as well as domestic visual merchandising. His strategy will include new media and Web-based initiatives, grass roots development and the launch of an official Original Penguin zine. In addition, he will oversee support for the brand’s planned 2008 retail expansion.

Most recently, Witt was vice president of global marketing for Mavi Jeans and, prior to that, was vice president of marketing at Sean John. He began his career at Diesel, where he created and executed visual and merchandising strategy for all North American Diesel locations and eventually oversaw the Italian denim label’s entire marketing strategy for all brands.

At Perry Ellis International, Witt reports to Chris Nakatani, executive vice president of strategic planning and business development for contemporary brands.
