Peaches Geldof, the model, writer and television presenter daughter of Bob Geldof and his late wife Paula Yates, has died at the age of 25.
Police in Kent, an area just outside London, said in a statement Monday: “Kent Police were called at 1.35 p.m. on April 7, 2014, to an address near Wrotham following a report of concern for the welfare of a woman. A woman aged 25 was pronounced dead by South East Coast ambulance service. At this stage the death is being treated as an unexplained and sudden death. Officers are working to establish the circumstances around the death.”
Peaches Geldof, who was married to musician Thomas Cohen, had two sons: Astala, almost two, and Phaedra, who turns one later this month.
Bob Geldof and his family said in a statement Monday: “Peaches has died. We are beyond pain. She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us. Writing ‘was’ destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever. How sad that sentence is.”
The statement added: “Tom and her sons Astala and Phaedra will always belong in our family, fractured so often, but never broken.”
Cohen said in a separate statement from him and the couple’s sons: “My beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons, Astala and Phaedra, and I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts every day. We shall love her forever.”
A familiar face at fashion shows in London and New York, Geldof got her start in fashion by writing for Elle magazine while just a teenager. She reportedly went on to contribute to The Telegraph and The Guardian, and to such TV shows as “OMG With Peaches Geldof.”
She modeled lingerie for a time, first with Agent Provocateur and later with Miss Ultimo. Neither company returned requests for comment at press time. In 2008, she was among the VIPs featured in a David LaChapelle exhibition in Paris. That same year she modeled on the runway for PPQ during London Fashion Week.
Over the years, the spirited blonde turned up at such runway shows as Preen, Temperley, Rebecca Minkoff, Anna Sui, Diesel, Charlotte Ronson, Lacoste, Betsey Johnson, Alice + Olivia and Milly by Michelle Smith, among others. In December, she had her young sons in tow at the opening of a Dolce & Gabbana children’s shop.
In September 2012, Geldof wore three different Alberta Ferretti gowns during the course of her wedding to Cohen at her father’s country estate, Davington Priory. True to her individualistic, offbeat style, Geldof used her golden retriever puppy as a ring bearer (dressed for the occasion with a floral garland). She also opted for a blue and cream-colored wedding cake embellished with edible pig characters.
Geldof’s first marriage to musician Max Drummey ended in divorce.
While Geldof had often been characterized as rebellious by the British press in the past, in recent years she’d become better known for a more homely existence, posting frequently on Twitter and Instagram about her young family. Her last tweet, posted Sunday, was a picture of her as a child being held by Yates, who died following an accidental drug overdose in 2000, captioned: “Me and my mum.”

As one of the most recognizable models in the world, Christy Turlington Burns has an insider’s view of the fashion industry and the allegations of sexual harassment swirling around it. “I can say that harassment and mistreatment have always been widely known and tolerated in the industry. The industry is surrounded by predators who thrive on the constant rejection and loneliness so many of us have experiences at some point in our careers,” Turlington told WWD, along with her suggestions for how the modeling world should protect younger women and men.
