Peter McMahon, former chief operating officer of Canada’s Loblaw Cos. Ltd. food chain, has been appointed chief executive officer of Shopko, the Green Bay, Wis.-based mass merchant.
Mike Bettiga had held the post of interim ceo of Shopko since October 2012, when Paul Jones resigned to join Payless Holdings as ceo. A search for a permanent successor had been under way since then.
Bettiga remains with Shopko as executive vice president and chief operating officer.
McMahon had responsibility for Loblaw’s supply chain, information technology, human resources, labor relations, merchandising, store operations and loss prevention functions. Earlier in his career, he held management positions with Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in Germany and Japan and with Tesco in central Europe.
“We are fortunate to have such a successful and distinguished retail executive like Peter McMahon join the Shopko team,” said T. Scott King, senior managing director of Sun Capital Partners Inc., an affiliate of which owns Shopko. “Peter is highly collaborative and has an outstanding track record of driving results and solving complex business problems. His extensive supply chain experience will be a tremendous asset as Shopko continues to grow its Shopko Hometown store format, which serves smaller, rural markets.”
With about $3 billion in annual revenues, Shopko operates 350 stores in 22 Midwestern, Mountain, North Central and Pacific Northwest states. More than half of the units bear the Shopko Hometown nameplate.
Jill Soltau was named president of Shopko in January. She retained the title of chief merchandising officer, which she has held since 2009.
Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia. It’s really a show that celebrates that and the paisley design of India and its origin,” said Veronica Etro. #wwdfashion #mfw #ss18 (📷: @delphineachard)
