Polartec LLC, the Lawrence., Mass.-based supplier of performance fabrics sold under the Polartec brand, has named Gary Smith chief executive officer and Joe Robinson chief financial officer, completing a management succession process unveiled in July.
Smith, 49, brings to Polartec extensive expertise in the outdoor and apparel industries, previously serving as president of the Outdoor Group for The Timberland Co., and as a partner with McKinsey & Co. Robinson, 46, joins Polartec after serving most recently as vice president of corporate finance with inVentiv Health. Before that, he held a similar position at the Converse division of Nike.
Smith and Robinson, together with Jon Adelman, Polartec’s executive vice president of global sales and marketing, comprise Polartec’s new senior leadership team.

Smith’s appointment is effective today, at which time he will succeed current ceo Andrew J. Vecchione.
Polartec is the developer, manufacturer and marketer of Polartec performance fabrics. Polartec products range from lightweight wicking base layers, to insulation layers and extreme weather protection.
