Rod McGeachy, former chairman, president and chief executive officer of Tandy Brands Accessories Inc., has joined Delta Apparel Inc. as president of its Soffe division.
McGeachy fills a post that has been vacant since December and had been filled on an interim basis by Robert Humphreys, Delta’s chairman and ceo, and Steve Cochran, president and chief operating officer of the Greenville, S.C.-based activewear and knitwear firm. McGeachy reports to Cochran and will be based at Soffe’s offices in Fayetteville, N.C.
Prior to joining Tandy in 2008, McGeachy was vice president of strategy and business development for the jeanswear coalition of VF Corp. Earlier in his career, he’d held posts at Russell Corp., Hanes and Accenture.
“Rod brings a unique and pertinent skill set to the Soffe business, with expertise in building and managing business and brand strategy as well as operating businesses that are in evolution and change,” Cochran said. “We are excited to have Rod join Soffe and know that he will be instrumental in helping continue to improve upon the great progress and work that has been made by the team over the past several months.”
Soffe was the lone trouble spot in an otherwise strong year for Delta, which posted net income of $9.2 million, or $1.08 a diluted share, in the 12 months ended June 29 following a net loss of $2.4 million, or 29 cents, in the prior year. Revenues rose 0.1 percent to $490.5 million from $489.9 million in fiscal 2012.
The Soffe division, which specializes in branded activewear and has roots in cheerleading apparel, suffered from the “turmoil that occurred in the mid-tier retail industry and our failure to make adjustments in our go-to-market strategy and operations in a timely manner to address changes in fashion and the market direction,” according to the firm’s annual report. In addition to the change in management, it realigned its merchandising and marketing, modernized a screen-print facility and closed a decoration facility as it chose to consolidate those operations into its Fayetteville production operation.
In addition to Soffe, Delta’s subsidiaries include Junkfood Clothing Co., To The Game LLC and Art Gun LLC.

“It’s life, I’m going to face it,” @mingxi11 sighed. “I fell, but you know, I think the most important thing is that I get back up. I had the love, the help from my sister — the girl next to me Gizele [Oliveira] — she’s so nice. When I went backstage everybody was trying to comfort me like ‘Oh Ming, it’s OK.’ I’m really, really touched. I think it’s them who gave me the courage to go back on stage for the finale,” Xi told WWD of her fall at the @victoriassecret fashion show. “I just wanted to create this fully rounded character, but I do think what excited me most was just the opportunity to give a group of people representation that I feel needs it. I like to do characters in projects that stand for something and Karolina definitely does, so that was really exciting to me,” @ginnygardner says of her new role in @hulu’s “The Runaways.” Gardner plays Karolina Dean, a queer superhero, which is a rarity for @marvel.
