Jack Kliger, chief executive officer of Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S., will be moved to a newly created position of chairman as of Sept. 1. He will be replaced by Alain Lemarchand, a longtime executive at Hachette’s French parent,Lagardère Active, who has held several financial and board position across the company. Lermachand will move to the U.S. from Paris upon taking over his new position.
In a memo to Hachette employees, Kliger said he has been “offered the position of chairman, HFM U.S. to concentrate on developing strategic relationships for the company.”
Kliger has been head of Hachette in the U.S. for the past nine years, and in that time has also served as chair of the Magazine Publishers of America. Earlier this year, Kliger received the organization’s Henry Johnson Fisher Award for Lifetime Achievement.Kliger also worked at Advance Publications prior to his time at Hachette, holding positions including executive vice president of Parade Publications and executive vp of Condé Nast Publications.
