Shearer Said Heading to Clarins

It looks likely Philip Shearer is heading to Groupe Clarins.

PARIS — It looks likely Philip Shearer is heading to Groupe Clarins.

It is said that the beauty executive will be on French soil as early as March, working in the company’s top management here.

Clarins executives and Shearer could not be reached for comment.

As reported, Shearer resigned in December as group president of the Estée Lauder Cos. after six years with the company. His departure followed a seismic shift in Lauder’s top management, in which the company unexpectedly unveiled a succession plan.

The Moroccan-born Frenchman, who subsequently became an American citizen, has a strong international management background. From 1983 to 1986, Shearer ran Elizabeth Arden’s operations in Mexico, then joined L’Oréal as managing director of Lancôme in the U.K. before becoming president and managing director of Lancôme Parfums et Beauté in Tokyo. Afterward, Shearer went to the U.S. as senior vice president of the Lancôme division.

It could not be learned exactly in what capacity Shearer will be joining Clarins, where there have been numerous management changes of late. Over the past few months, for instance, Eric Horowitz and Patrick Bizot, Clarins brand presidents in New York and Paris, respectively, left the firm.
