Jeffrey Sherman has become president of the Echo Design Group accessories and home products company.

Sherman started work Wednesday at Echo, which is predominantly a family-run business, in effect coming out of retirement for the second time.

The first was when he joined Hudson’s Bay Co. as chief executive officer in July 2008, but he abruptly left Hudson’s Bay in April. He is credited with building executive teams at the Hudson’s Bay divisions, including Zellers and The Bay in Canada and Lord & Taylor in the U.S., and helping the Canadian stores capitalize on the Winter Olympics held in February in Vancouver.

At Echo, Steven Roberts continues as ceo, and Dorothy Roberts continues as chairman. Dorothy Roberts is the daughter of Theresa and Edgar C. Hyman, who founded the company on their wedding day in 1923, and the mother of Steven Roberts. Her daughter, Lynn, is vice president of advertising and public relations, and her daughter-in-law, Meg Roberts, is design director for the home division.

Steven and Dorothy Roberts and Sherman comprise the office of the president.

“Joining the Echo leadership team is both a privilege and a personal challenge to help grow a successful business to new dimensions,” said Sherman. “It’s all about staying focused on the core attributes and maximizing opportunities.”

“This is an exciting time at Echo,” said Steven Roberts. “As a company, we have made great strides to become more focused and goal driven, and have many future opportunities to capitalize on.”
