Stage Stores Inc. said Thursday that Michael Glazer has been named interim president and chief executive officer, following the resignation of former president and ceo Andy Hall.
The retailer said Hall, who joined the firm as president and chief operating officer in 2006 and was named ceo in 2008, has left the company to pursue other interests.
Glazer has been a director of Stage since August 2001. He currently serves as president and ceo of Mattress Giant Corp., and before that he was a managing director of private equity firm Team Neu. Prior retail posts include a stint as president and ceo at KB Toys Inc., and as president at Big Lots Inc. and Bombay Co.
William Montgoris, chairman, said, “Considering his nearly 11 years of service on our board, his more than 37 years of experience in the retail industry, his broad knowledge of the company and his proven dynamic leadership skills, I am confident that Michael will add significant value to the company and to our shareholders as we continue to implement our future growth and expansion strategies.”
Stage said it is beginning a search for a permanent president and ceo, and that Glazer will be included among the candidates under consideration.
Stage operates 820 stores in 40 states, mostly in small and midsize towns and communities. Its stores operate under the nameplates Bealls, Goody’s, Palais Royal, Peebles, Stage and Steele’s, the latter a new off-price concept in small-town strip centers.
