Steven Frumkin has been appointed dean of the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Frumkin comes to FIT from Philadelphia University, where he’d served as an associate professor and associate director of research at the Laboratory for Engineered Human Protection in the School of Design, Engineering and Commerce. He was previously an adjunct assistant professor in FIT’s textile development in marketing program for six years beginning in 1994.

At FIT, he succeeds Frank Koe, who’d served as acting dean and is no longer with the New York-based college.

His industry credentials include posts as senior vice president of Carleton Woolen Mills Inc., president and general manager of the E.G. Smith unit of Keepers International and president of Nazzareno Goti USA, a U.S.-based international sales, marketing and consulting organization.

“Dean Frumkin’s impressive career has earned him respect and recognition both as an educator and as an industry professional,” said Joyce Brown, president of FIT. “Our students will greatly benefit from his vast knowledge and experience.”

Frumkin reports to Giacomo Oliva, vice president for academic affairs, and supervises a school that accounts for more than 4,000 of FIT’s almost 10,000 full- and part-time students. Two programs within the school — advertising and marketing communications and fashion merchandising management — are among FIT’s largest. Others include cosmetics and fragrance marketing, direct and interactive marketing, international trade and marketing and textile development and marketing.
