Louis Vuitton Names Director for Art Museum

Sophie Durrleman is joining the forthcoming Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation.

PARIS — Bernard Arnault is building his team ahead of the targeted 2014 opening of a Frank Gehry-designed art foundation on the leafy fringes of Paris.

The luxury titan, chairman and chief executive officer of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, and Yves Carcelle, executive vice president of the Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation, have named Sophie Durrleman the foundation’s new managing director.

She reports to Carcelle, previously the longtime ceo of the leather goods powerhouse after which the forthcoming museum is named. Carcelle also holds the title of chairman, LV Group.

Durrleman, 51, joins the foundation from the National Library of France, where she was deputy managing director and head of administration and personnel.

A graduate of Sciences Po in Paris and France’s National School of Administration, Durrleman has also worked for the City of Paris, Les Arts Décoratifs and the Ministry of Culture and Communications.

Unveiled in 2006, the Gehry building — capped with a glass roof resembling a cloud — is to showcase LVMH’s vast corporate art collection, plus temporary exhibitions.

Its construction in the Bois de Boulogne has had to overcome several legal snags delaying its opening.
