Facing highly publicized lawsuits, American Apparel has beefed up its legal team.

The company named Guess veteran Glenn A. Weinman as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, effective Feb. 17. He reports to Dov Charney, chief executive officer of the L.A.-based firm.

Joyce Crucillo, general counsel since the company went public in December 2007 via its merger with Endeavor Acquisition Corp., will remain as chief litigation counsel. She will head the company’s team of trial lawyers in all litigation matters.

In addition to the lawsuits involving former employees, American Apparel is engaged in several binding arbitration proceedings. Weinman was previously a partner at Dongell Lawrence Finney LLP, a California-based firm, where he headed up the corporate and business transactions practice. His experience also includes a stint as vice president, general counsel and secretary at Guess Inc. from 1996 to 2000.
