In the run up to the holidays, skin care and makeup seem to be beating out fragrance.
On Thursday, The NPD Group’s NPD BeautyTrends division released figures for November 2012. Of the $826 million spent on prestige beauty products in November, makeup comprised 37 percent of the business with a 3-percent gain and skin care, 32 percent of the business with a 6-percent increase. Despite the flood of new fragrance launches, scent sales represented just 29 percent of prestige beauty dollars, a decrease of 1 percent.
