NEW YORK — Target is building street cred for its accessories and footwear businesses one designer at a time. Now, Anya Hindmarch has made a deal to create a handbag collection and Sigerson Morrison has agreed to partner with Target for a line of footwear, the Minneapolis-based chain said Tuesday.

This will be Target's sixth limited edition handbag offering and the retailer's third footwear collaboration. So far, Rafe, Devi Kroell, Loeffler Randall, Hollywould and Gryson have translated their vision to lower price points for the mass retailer.

Both Hindmarch and Sigerson Morrison's collections will make their debuts in select Target locations on Oct. 12 and remain in stores through Dec. 26. The products also will be available on the retailer's Web site during the same time period. That's slightly longer than the six weeks Target keeps its Go International collections on sales floors. Since announcing that Isaac Mizrahi's contract would not be renewed, Target has said its focus going forward will be on Go International, which only represents sales of "north of $100 million," said Robert Buchanan, a consultant for Goldman Sachs' Vantage Marketplace subsidiary.

The retailer's accessories and footwear approach is similar to its strategy for Go International, whose guest designers have included Proenza Schouler, Luella Bartley, Patrick Robinson, Behnaz Sarafpour, Erin Fetherston and, most recently, Jovovich-Hawk. Most of the designers are normally sold in high-end specialty stores and boutiques. The same is true of Rafe, Devi Kroell, Loeffler Randall, Hollywould and Gryson on the accessories and footwear side. Hindmarch and Sigerson Morrison maintain higher price points in their core businesses. For example, Hindmarch's Beverly handbag in woven gold leather is $1,200, and a Crosby tote in python is $1,895. Sigerson Morrison's silver leather flat with silver ornament is $440, and a black patent leather sandal is $495.
