Web: fieramilano.it The Story: Organized jointly by Pitti Immagine and Fiera Milano, in collaboration with the city of Milan, this biannual fair offers a new exhibition space for women’s ready-to-wear and accessories, putting special emphasis on emerging brands and young Italian designers as well as attracting international guest designers and independent retailers.
Architects Peter Bonazzi and Denise Bonapace set up the space especially for Super’s debut edition, which launches in February during women’s fashion week. The location is worth a visit in and of itself: originally completed in 1923 for the Automobile Fair, Pavilion 3, also known as the Palazzo dello Sport (Sports Palace), has hosted everything from athletic events to performances by the Teatro alla Scala. Super is taking over Pitti’s trio of Touch, neoZone and Cloudnine fairs, which have been discontinued, while Fiera Milano is maintaining its MI Milano Pret-à-Porter fair next door.

The Story: MI Milano Pret-à-Porter, also known as MIPAP, has changed its location and is now neighbor to Super at Fiera Milano’s Mico Pavilion. The strategic placement of the two women’s ready-to-wear and accessories fairs is intended to create a new hub during women’s fashion week. MIPAP will maintain its Iconic section, dedicated to classic, tailored styles, and will expand its Stream section of more casual, trendy looks. Hothouse, the area focused on young designers, is no longer part of the lineup.

The Story: Mido, the massive eyewear fair that saw a total of 42,000 visitors in 2012, has its sights set on bringing even more vision experts to Milan this year. Through a new agreement with Trenitalia, Italy’s national train service, special high-speed charter trains will be available in Rome to bring opticians to Milan for the fair in three hours and at no personal expense. The train will make stops in Florence and Bologna, and in the evenings, a return service will make the same stops.
Visitors to the fair will have access to the Mido Design Lab, dedicated to highly creative eyewear; the Fashion District, home to top fashion brands; the Lenses Pavilion; the Mido Tech area, and the Asian Pavilion, which focuses on Asian eyewear producers. The Otticlub is also organizing workshops and meetings especially for opticians.

The Story: The Micam, Mipel and Mifur trio of fairs will take place at Fieramilano Rho. Micam is the destination for shoe aficionados, while Mipel and Mifur cater to leather goods (bags, luggage, wallets and more) and fur experts, respectively.
