MOMS WITH CLOUT: Tory Burch, Victoria Beckham and Beyoncé have one more thing to celebrate this Mother’s Day. They are among the “50 Most Powerful Moms of 2017,” according to Working Mother’s newly released list. The publication recognizes women who are leaders in their respective fields, make the world a better place and juggle jobs and families.
Twenty-one moms are new to the list this year, including Burch, Beckham and celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and soon-to-be mom Amal Clooney. Other moms in the fashion and retail world who made the list include Bob Bland, ceo and founder of Manufacture, N.Y. (national co-chair of the Women’s March on Washington); Sara Blakely, founder and ceo of Spanx; Caroline Rafaelian, ceo/creative director of Alex and Ani, and Angela Ahrendts, senior vice president of retail and online stores, Apple Inc.
Interestingly, Chelsea Clinton and Ivanka Trump made the list, but Melania Trump and Hillary Clinton did not.
From the celebrity world, moms included Beyoncé, Viola Davis, Adele, Melissa McCarthy, Kerry Washington, Samantha Bee and Reese Witherspoon. And from the business/tech world, the list includes Melinda Gates, cofounder and co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of Facebook and author-advocate, and Susan Wojcicki, ceo of YouTube.
“The women on the list are forces, plain and simple. Their accomplishments are amazing on their own, but when you consider the countless obstacles working moms face, they’re especially impressive and inspiring,” said Meredith Bodgas, editor in chief of Working Mother.
