HEARST’S NEW FACE: Amanda Turnbull has been appointed group publishing director for the British editions of Esquire and Harper’s Bazaar at Hearst Magazines UK.

Turnbull will join in January and report to Anna Jones, chief operating officer, who has been serving as temporary publisher since Tess Macleod Smith left to join the Net-a-porter Group earlier this year as group publishing director.

Hearst said Turnbull’s role will be to drive the commercial and multiplatform growth of both magazine brands. Her appointment comes shortly after that of Justine Picardie, who was named editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar UK in August. Picardie succeeded Lucy Yeomans, who also joined Net-a-porter Group earlier this year.

Turnbull is currently working at Discovery Networks as director of integrated marketing and commercial partnerships for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. She has previously worked across multiplatforms including publishing, newspaper, digital and TV.

She spent 10 years in senior sales and management roles at Hachette Filipacchi in Asia-Pacific, with responsibility titles including Elle and Elle Décor. She also served as director, marketing and communications, at the South China Morning Post.
