It’s no secret Lenny Kravitz is a design junkie — his homes are famously filled with plush fur carpets and extravagant pieces — and now he’s taking his passion public by teaming with Morgans Hotel Group to create a lounge at Miami Beach’s Delano hotel. The singer, working with his two-year-old firm Kravitz Design Inc., is spearheading the project as creative director.
“I love the musical history of Miami Beach,” says Kravitz, who made his first site visit to the Delano this week. “The Beatles, James Brown and Frank Sinatra all spent time here.” To capture that mood, he’s creating a speakeasy-style space, tucked underneath the hotel’s Blue Door restaurant. “We took cues to create the place I always wanted at the beach, but hasn’t existed here in a long time,” he continues. Kravitz’s project is set to open in December, in time for Art Basel Miami Beach.
The Delano project isn’t his first stab at the role, though: His New York-based company has completed other commercial, residential and product design projects, and visitors to last winter’s Art Basel Miami Beach will recall the chandeliers Kravitz created as part of Swarovski’s Crystal Palace collection.
