The Financial Times has found its new global media editor.

Matthew Garrahan, who formerly covered Hollywood, digital media and West Coast business and politics for the FT out of its Los Angeles bureau, will pick up the mantle, starting Feb. 1.

As global media editor, Garrahan, who will move to the FT’s New York bureau, will oversee coverage of media, marketing and entertainment. He replaces Andrew Edgecliffe-Johnson, who became FT’s U.S. news editor in October.

“Matt has been an outstanding reporter in Hollywood for the FT, consistently delivering front page scoops and deeper reportage on the entertainment industry,” FT editor Lionel Barber said. “He is a highly respected media observer and his move to New York as the FT’s media editor is a natural next step.”

Since joining the FT in 1998, Garrahan has reported on the business of sports, leisure industries and the convergence of media and the web.
