SOZZANI’S CAMPAIGN: Franca Sozzani has launched a new initiative to fight pro-anorexia and pro-bulimia Web sites. The Italian Vogue editor in chief, who talked about eating disorders and their link with fashion during a speech at Harvard University on April 2, made a plea from Vogue.it, urging everyone to open a blog to talk about anorexia and bulimia, giving support to those affected. “Accusing a fashion magazine of hypocrisy because its cover and editorials feature long-limbed bodies is the easiest thing to do,” Sozzani wrote. “Committing oneself to starting a blog and to communicating on a daily basis, like I do with my own blog, with people who feel lonely and insecure, is not as obvious and simple as you might think.”
In order to create a sort of global network, Vogue.it will geo-localize the blogs, providing a map to have easy access to them. This is not Sozzani’s first concrete crusade against eating disorders. In 2009 she exhorted her readership to sign a petition asking to shut down pro-anorexia and pro-bulima Web sites, which collected about 11,000 signatures.
