Hearst Magazines U.K., the new company formed when Hearst Corporation completed the acquisition of the U.K. segment of Lagardère SCA’s magazines this week, is to fold She magazine and Cosmopolitan Bride.


The titles were both part of Hearst’s original U.K. division, formerly known as the National Magazine Company. “We have looked at our business and made the decision to close both She and Cosmopolitan Bride to ensure our company is as robust and adaptable for the future,” Meribeth Parker, group publishing director of Hearst Magazines U.K., said. Founded in 1955, She is a women’s lifestyle magazine that covers fashion, celebrity, food and home, while Cosmopolitan Bride, launched in 2001, is the U.K.’s bridal offshoot of Cosmopolitan.


She’s last issue will be September, published Aug. 16, while Cosmopolitan Bride’s last issue will be October/November, published Aug. 25. She had achieved a circulation of 144,583 in the six months to Dec. 31, according to the U.K.’s Audit Bureau of Circulations, while Cosmopolitan Bride hit a circulation figure of 37,690 for the six issues distributed in the year to Dec. 31, 2010. “Both titles have earned a loyal following in their respective markets,” Parker noted. “Competition in those sectors, however, has never been fiercer and we cannot ignore these trends or the need to adapt our business accordingly.”
