LAYING LOW: Andy Pettitte is now free to root for the Texas Rangers in the baseball playoffs. The former New York Yankees pitcher, and Texas native, said Rangers co-owner Nolan Ryan “is a friend and I know him well, so I would pull for him.” Pettitte, whose fatherly advice to rookie pitcher Ivan Nova couldn’t keep the Bronx Bombers from being eliminated from post-season play last week, was at Macy’s Thursday afternoon to meet fans and sign autographs on behalf of Weatherproof. The outerwear company has signed Pettitte as a spokesman for its new 32 Degree Heat collection. “Weatherproof was an easy choice for me,” he said. “They’re sponsors of the New York Yankees and it’s a great company. It also gave me the opportunity to get back up here in New York. I’ve been laying low since I retired.”
