BERLIN — Rihanna’s personal wardrobe stylist Mel Ottenberg has been appointed fashion director of 032c magazine.
The bi-annual, English language publication based here focuses on contemporary fashion, art and politics. Ottenberg had worked on the last two issues of the magazine but was only officially appointed fashion director this week.
Ottenberg, who splits his time between Los Angeles and New York, currently serves as Rihanna’s stylist for all her appearances, album covers and music videos. He is also known for reinventing the looks of Cate Blanchett, Chloë Sevigny and James Franco. In addition, Ottenberg was a mentor on the show “Styled to Rock.”
“Mel and I have a similar aesthetic, and I appreciate his attention to detail. Mel is an artist,” said Rihanna.
His work spans print, performance and film, and he has collaborated with some of the world’s top photographers, including Mario Sorrenti, Terry Richardson and Wong Kar-Wai. His work has appeared in Purple, Harper’s Bazaar, Dazed & Confused, GQ and T Magazine. Ottenberg has also styled advertising campaigns for Nike and Dior.
“I am always impressed by the ease in which Mel alternates between hyper-precise styling and mainstream rebellion. He is the perfect match for 032c’s modern take on fashion for men and women,” said Joerg Koch, editor and creative director of 032c.
