MONSTER CHILDREN: Campbell Milligan and Chris Searl thought securing a Hedi Slimane shot of Kate Moss for the cover of Issue 23 of their seven-year-old subculture magazine Monster Children was a great get. That was until the Sydney-based duo’s distributor got wind of the fact that Moss was partially topless in the image and restricted the issue, which is due out Friday. In a statement on Monster Children’s Web site, Milligan and Searl note, “Our newsagent distributor didn’t share the same affinity for Hedi Slimane’s shot of Kate Moss’ breasts as us, so this cover will only be available at bookstores, online and for some lucky subscribers. While the newsagents’ copies will have a selection of photos that we’ve printed and stuck to the front.” The cover image is not a new shot, but part of a series of topless images of Moss called “Kate Liberation” that were taken by Slimane and originally published on March 8, 2008, as a cover story for France’s Libération Next magazine, to coincide with International Women’s Day. On the same day, an exhibition of the images opened at Gallery Koyanagi in Tokyo. Libération chose a cropped portrait of Moss for its cover.
