THE CARDIGAN DID IT: German specialty store chain Peek & Cloppenburg has not only joined the real-people-versus-models movement.

The retailer enlisted a criminally minded group to shoot for its fall/winter knitwear ads: mystery writers. Timed to coincide with the Frankfurt book fair in October, Åke Edwardson, Elisabeth Herrmann,Harry Kämmerer, Liza Marklund, Nele Neuhaus, Oliver Pötzsch and Michael Theurillat will be seen on the pages of daily newspapers and fashion magazines wearing a variety of Norwegian pullovers, chunky wool cardigans and fine gauge crew and turtleneck sweaters. The authors, all of whom are published by Ullstein, were photographed by Marc Hom at a Bavarian country estate and boathouse.
