NEVER TOO MUCH SPORTS ON: While Sports Illustrated works to integrate its print and online operations during the coming weeks — a move that’s expected to result in layoffs — its television business is expanding with two big network deals in the works. Later this month, “Sports Illustrated,” an hour-long magazine-style TV show, will premiere on NBC Sports Network and, next summer, the title will partner with HBO and Endgame Entertainment on a documentary series, “Sport in America: Our Defining Stories.”
“Sports Illustrated,” which makes its debut July 24, will be the beginning of a monthly program involving feature segments and reporting from SI’s journalists. The show’s reach will extend in the magazine, with at least one subject from each show appearing within the pages of the weekly and on si.com and nbcsports.com. The first show will be sponsored by Lexus.
