IT’S SHOWTIME: Love’s autumn/winter issue, out July 27, is called “The Talents,” and editor in chief Katie Grand said the focus is on “people who have a natural ability — and who have taken it all the way.”

There are seven covers, featuring Cher, Florence Welch, Gisele Bündchen, Alicia Vikander, C-3PO, Kate Moss and Poppy Delevingne, and the issue is Love’s largest yet, with a record 256 ad pages.

Inside, Grand endeavored to pair “icons with fans,” so the editorial mix includes Cara Delevingne on her sister Poppy; a “love letter” to C-3P0 by Grimes, and interviews by model Edie Campbell with Elizabeth Hurley, Amanda Harlech, and Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen.

Burton discusses the role of the rose in her fall collection, describing how her inspiration came from David Sims’ photographs of the roses growing on the walls of his former school playground.

“These beautiful flowers on the verge of decay. I love the idea that in nature there is not only beauty in life but also in death.” In her fall show, Burton said the clothing was meant to “unravel and peel away like the petals of the roses. Lace begins to ladder, fabrics begin to fray, and the clothes begin to shroud her rather than restrict her.”

Grand said she wanted Campbell in particular to write the story on Burton, who rarely sits for interviews. “This McQueen collection seemed a very special one for Sarah. As an observer, it looked super personal and I wanted Edie, who has worked with Sarah many times, to give us an intimate insight into the collection,” the editor said.
