NEW YORK – Ann Shoket has been named the new editor in chief of Seventeen magazine, effective immediately.
Shoket, executive editor of CosmoGirl since October 2003, replaces Atoosa Rubenstein, who left Seventeen in November.
“Ann has extensive experience and a proven track record in both teen magazines and in the digital world, an important area of growth for Seventeen,” Cathie Black, president, Hearst Magazines, said in a statement. “She understands the teen market and has the talent and smarts to lead Seventeen to the next level.”
Before taking the helm at CosmoGirl, Shoket was senior editor with Parade’s teen news magazine, React, and worked at The American Lawyer.
Staffers were told of Shoket’s appointment in a morning meeting today.
