The Huffington Post has tapped Katie Nelson to be its national editor.

The former deputy managing editor of digital for the New York Daily News will join HuffPo on August 6 and report to managing editor Katie Palmer, who served as national editor for two years before being promoted last month.

“We set the bar high in our search for a new National Editor; we wanted someone with traditional reporting, editing, and management experience who also knows how to use cutting-edge digital tools to tell stories in new and exciting ways — and Katie effortlessly cleared the bar,” said Arianna Huffington, president and editor in chief of The Huffington Post Media Group. “As we continue to expand internationally and experiment with new ways to tell the stories that matter most, Katie brings a mix of reporting experience and digital savvy that perfectly fits HuffPost’s hybrid approach.”
