At a time when fashion and Hollywood are intertwined more closely than ever, WWD and Variety are joining together to honor the creative forces in fashion, beauty and style whose work transcends both worlds.
The first annual StyleMakers ceremony will be held Nov. 19 at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif. Honorees include fashion designer Zac Posen, costume designer Lyn Paolo, stylist Elizabeth Stewart, hairstylist Jen Atkin, makeup artist Lisa Eldridge and photographer Matthew Rolston. A complete list of the honorees will be revealed at a later date.
“Entertainment and fashion are almost interchangeable today, so the collaboration between our two publications is a natural,” said WWD editor in chief Edward Nardoza. “Designers are celebrities now, while actresses and actors are style leaders — sometimes even branded designers. And a costume designer, hair or makeup artist who strikes a chord through a fictional character or a red carpet style can influence the public as powerfully as the runway.”
StyleMakers is the first time WWD and Variety have come together to honor leaders in both worlds. “A collaboration with WWD is as natural as the symbiotic relationship between entertainment and fashion,” said Claudia Eller, co-editor in chief of Variety. Both WWD and Variety are owned by PMC Media Corp.
