FAM Brands LLC has acquired Teháma Inc., a specialist of upscale casual sportswear for men and women.
FAM, founded in 1985 with estimated annual wholesale sales in excess of $100 million, is a Commerce, Calif.-based specialist of women’s activewear and bodywear by Marika and New Balance.
The purchase price was not disclosed. But annual wholesale revenues for the combined men’s and women’s lines including golf apparel is more than $40 million, according to industry estimates.
The Teháma brand was created in 1997 by Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood and designer Nancy Haley as a lifestyle label of men’s and women’s tops and bottoms for casual and weekend wear as well as stylish high-end golf apparel.
Frank Zarabi, owner and chief executive officer of FAM, described the Teháma name as an emerging luxury and lifestyle brand.
“FAM Brands has thrived and prospered by focusing on and developing unparalleled expertise in the activewear and lifestyle apparel that today’s consumers really want and value.…We are now expanding within the niche by both growth and acquisition wherever and whenever it makes sense,” said Zarabi. “Teháma, which is one of the fastest growing luxury and lifestyle brands in the country, is a perfect fit for us. It has become one of our power brands.”
Jim Shoemaker, who joined the company this month as general manager of the Teháma business, said the Teháma label will be relaunched for spring 2013.
“We will continue to position it as a premier lifestyle collection that will primarily be available in department and specialty stores. We confidently anticipate that it will go from strength to strength in the seasons and years to come,” said Shoemaker.
FAM manufactures branded and private label apparel, as well as licensed products by Bally Total Fitness, Laura Ashley and Eddie Bauer. FAM sells to all channels of distribution at over 15,000 locations including mass merchants, major department store chains and sporting goods outlets.
In October 2011, FAM signed Laila Ali — daughter of boxing legend Muhammad Ali — to a multiyear endorsement deal with Marika.
