PARIS — Hermès Cuirs Précieux, the tannery division of Hermès International, said it has acquired French calf leather specialist Tannerie d’Annonay for an undisclosed sum as part of its ongoing policy of integrating suppliers.
“This acquisition is in line with the strategy of the Hermès Group in the preservation and the development of its sources of supplies and of the know-how related to them,” the French luxury goods house stated.
Located in the town of Annonay in the Rhône valley, Tannerie d’Annonay employs some 80 people, according to its Web site. Hermès uses box calf in the fabrication of its iconic Birkin and Kelly handbags.
Last year, the house bought Swiss high-end watch dial manufacturer Natéber SA through its watchmaking subsidiary, La Montre Hermès.
