Tailored clothing company Jack Victor Ltd. is close to acquiring Riviera Inc., a better trouser company, according to market sources.

Tailored clothing company Jack Victor Ltd. is close to acquiring Riviera Inc., a better trouser company, according to market sources.

Executives at Jack Victor and Riviera could not be reached for comment on the report.

The purchase would give Jack Victor, a Montreal-based brand best known for suits and sport coats, a piece of the trouser market, as well as a more moderately priced collection.

Canada-based Riviera retails super 120’s flannel pants for $115; Jack Victor flannel pants sell for around $200. Jack Victor suits are priced at less than $1,000.

Terms of the deal could not be learned, but sources said the contract is nearly signed.

According to sources, current Riviera owner Steven Barmish has been shopping the label for at least a year.

In addition to its branded business, which includes both casual and dress styles, Riviera relied on contract work from Brooks Brothers for the majority of its orders. Sources said the brand has been struggling to keep the factory busy since Brooks Bros. moved production to its company-owned factory, Southwick, located in Massachusetts.

Riviera sells its trousers under three primary labels: Black, Blue and Sport.
