Abercrombie & Fitch Co. said Monday that it will open a Hollister Co. flagship at 600 Broadway in New York's SoHo in spring 2009. This confirms a WWD report Aug. 14 that an A&F deal was in place at that location.

The multilevel Hollister will mark the company's first flagship for the brand. The company has been working on a flagship prototype for Hollister for some time. A&F said it anticipates opportunities for more Hollister flagships on an international basis.

The company said last month that it will open an 11-story A&F flagship in the Ginza area of Tokyo. A&F, which is aimed at 18- to 22-year-olds, has been working on its European expansion. The company, which opened an A&F flagship at 7 Burlington Gardens in London, has a goal of opening 10 to 12 units in Europe over the next five years.

"We are pleased to be opening our first Hollister flagship," said an A&F spokesman. "The Hollister brand continues to experience broad recognition and our strategy is to leverage its iconic status by continuing to grow the brand. By opening our first flagship in SoHo, we will be showcasing to both New Yorkers and travelers from around the world Hollister's laid-back, aspirational California cool style."

Hollister, which targets 14- to 18-year-olds, operates 416 units in the U.S. and three stores in Canada. There are 362 Abercrombie & Fitch units, 186 abercrombie stores and 17 Ruehl units in the U.S.

Abercrombie & Fitch was represented in SoHo by Laura Pomerantz of PBS Real Estate.
