NEW YORK — So, what's hot this summer?

If America Online's top search terms are any indication, the people, places and things drawing the most interest in their categories include Speedo swimwear, Oakley sunglasses, Angelina Jolie, cosmopolitans and Las Vegas.

Speedo, Venus, Miraclesuit, Roxy, Vix, Gottex, Jantzen, Calvin Klein, Anne Cole, and Carol Wior were the leaders in swimwear. Among the 10 swimwear styles most searched for in the AOL Search Index were: swimsuits, bikinis, plus-size swimsuits, Speedos, micro bikinis, tankinis, boardshorts, thong bikinis, swim dresses and string bikinis.

Gucci, Maui Jim, Ray Ban, Prada, Versace, Christian Dior, Revo, Bolle and Costa Del Mar sunglasses completed the list of top 10 brands looked up in the eyewear category.

"We have seen a lot more practical [fashion] styles being searched for," said Sarah Ivey, search trends analyst at AOL Search. "People might think of outdoorsy or sporty brands like Oakley and Speedo as practical."

The top inquiries were based on the activity of 35 million AOL users between April and mid-June.

Ivey said she was surprised by how many brands of sunglasses commanded searches because it is a category that typically draws more AOL searches by style than by name, or via the word sunglasses. Other categories, such as jeans and swimwear, tend to elicit more brand searches, she added.

As for the celebs who captured the most interest, Paris Hilton placed second after Jolie, with Lindsay Lohan next, then Jessica Simpson, Brad Pitt, Hayden Christensen, Pamela Anderson, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and Rosario Dawson.

Among the libations most likely to be enjoyed this summer, cosmos ranked first, followed by the martini, margarita, sangria, mojito, Gibson, mint julep, Bloody Mary, appletini, piña colada, sex on the beach and Long Island iced tea.

And just where might the crowds be heading?

Florida had the second-most searches after Las Vegas, with Myrtle Beach, S.C., third, then Hawaii, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Italy, Niagra Falls, Jamaica, California and Washington, D.C.
