NEW YORK -- Barneys New York has appointed Michele Smith senior vice president and general merchandise manager for women's ready-to-wear.
Smith, who held the same title at I. Magnin, will report to Bonnie Pressman, divisional senior vice president for women's rtw and accessories. She succeeds Connie Darrow, who left Barneys last December to join Prada.
Smith covered European designer rtw at Magnin but at Barneys will cover American and European rtw.
At Magnin, David Wright, divisional vice president, will add Smith's responsibilities.
Magnin also said that Terry Mottoros, president of merchandising, will retire on June 1 to "pursue other interests." Mottoros joined Magnin last year and is a veteran of R.H. Macy & Co., which operates the San Francisco-based Magnin.
Succeeding Mottoros is Scott Bowman, Magnin's president since February. He has been overseeing operations and finance, but Macy officials noted that Bowman has a merchandising background and was senior vice president for merchandise planning and distribution at Macy's West. He joined Macy's in 1990.
Bowman and Wright report to Joseph Cicio, chairman and chief executive officer.
