CHICAGO -- Jacobson Stores Inc. has appointed George P. Kelly senior vice president and general merchandise manager.

He succeeds Nathan Foreman, who retired after 37 years with the Jackson, Mich.-based specialty retailer. In his new post, Kelly will be responsible for ready-to-wear, sportswear, fashion accessories and juniors, reporting to James Fowler, president.

Kelly most recently was chief operating officer of Brands of Indiana, a chain of factory outlet stores based in Michigan City, Ind. From 1983 to 1992, he was president of Mallard's, a Chicago-based men's specialty clothing retailer.

From 1973 to 1975, Kelly was president and chief executive officer of Garfinckel's and from 1975 to 1976, was a general merchandise manager at Bloomingdale's. From 1976 to 1978, he was chairman and ceo of J.W. Robinson's and from 1978 to 1983, was chairman and ceo of Marshall Field's.
